City of Coshocton Local Emergency Declaration – Posted Friday, March 20th 2020 at 11:00AM

Click HERE to Download The Declaration Document

The City of Coshocton has declared a State of Emergency due to the coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak. This declaration is not to alarm or scare our residents. This declaration is to enable the City of Coshocton to take actions urgently if need be in this ever-changing pandemic that has consumed most of our daily lives. This declaration will also authorize city officials such as myself to speed up assistance and make resources available to residents in a manner that is not only more efficient, but will also speed up the process that is often bogged down by bureaucracy. By joining Coshocton County, and other Villages in our county, the City of Coshocton is showing that we are working as a cohesive unit to battle the spread of coronavirus within our community to maintain the sanctity of everyday life within our county, in this very uncertain time.

As your Mayor, I reassure you that The State of Ohio, Coshocton County, and The City of Coshocton are working tirelessly with the County and City Health Departments to keep our community protected. I am recommending all residents stay home if at all possible, reach out for the facts, and check on your neighbors in this unprecedented moment of history.

I would like to send a special thank you to our local EMA, County and City Health Departments, all healthcare providers and all first responders within our community that always put their lives on the line everyday to benefit the health and well being of our residents. I would also like to thank the great staff that surrounds me, also our tight-knit community for keeping the City of Coshocton moving while all of this uncertainty surrounds us all.
In closing, besides reminding everyone to stay calm, I wanted to end with a quote that I believe is very fitting for this moment. “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength”- Corrie ten Boom

Your Mayor,
Mark Mills

Official Press Release – Posted Monday, March 16th 2020 9:45PM

Coshocton City Health Department Reports First Positive Case of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Coshocton City

The Coshocton City Health Department (CCHD) has been notified of 2 “Positive” test results for 2 residents of Coshocton City for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) from Union Hospital in Dover, OH. These are the first positive results for Coshocton City. The cases have not traveled outside of Ohio and had contact exposure to the virus.

We want to protect the privacy of the individual during this time of illness and will contact anyone who needs to know or take action.

The Coshocton City Health Department, along with our local health systems, healthcare providers, the Coshocton County Health Department and community partners have been actively preparing to respond to possible cases of COVID-19 in our community.

The news of a COVID-19 case in our county is not a surprise. We have been planning and preparing to respond to cases when they occur. We have community interventions in place that are designed to slow transmission in our community while lessening the impact. Our investigation is on-going. Our main goal is to isolate those who are ill.

The coronavirus that causes COVID-19 can cause mild to more severe respiratory illness. Symptoms include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Symptoms appear within 14 days of being exposed to an infectious person. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), COVID-19 spreads primarily through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Those at high risk for illness of COVID-19 are those over 60 with chronic illness or a weakened immune system.

To prevent the spread of disease, CCHD encourages everyone to follow these effective practices:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer only if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces – doorknobs, light switches, keyboards, etc.

This is a rapidly evolving situation. Information is being shared as it becomes available on the CCHD Facebook page and on the following websites: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus, www.coronavirus.ohio.gov, People with questions about COVID-19 can call the Ohio Department of Health COVID-19 Call Center, 7 days a week from 9AM – 8PM at: 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).
