Auditor

Welcome to the Coshocton City Auditor’s page.

The City Auditor’s Office functions under the direction of City Auditor, Sherry A. Kirkpatrick.  Sherry has nearly two decades of service with the City of Coshocton, having begun her tenure as an At-Large Council Member from 1994 – 1999.  From 2004 – 2007 she was the 3rd Ward Council Member and City Treasurer from 2008 – 2009.  In January 2010, she was appointed City Auditor and elected to the four-year term beginning January 2012.

Pursuant to ORC 5705.01 the City Auditor serves as the Fiscal Officer of the City of Coshocton, whose duties include but are not limited to, maintaining the financial records of the city, including general ledger records, and reporting the city’s financial position to the Auditor of State and City Council.  The Auditor maintains all the funds of the city, records all revenues and expenses, and reports monthly and annually to all department heads and City Council.  The Auditor also attends both Council finance committee meetings and regular Council sessions.

The Auditor is responsible for the accounting of fixed assets, payroll preparation, along with the pension fund and tax reporting, accounts payable, and managing the city’s bonded and noted debt.

The Auditor works closely with the Auditor of the State and its Auditors, who audit the city’s ledgers after they are closed by this department on December 31.  A copy of the State Auditor’s annual report is always available by request.

In addition, the Auditor’s office is the keeper of all personnel records and is responsible for the payroll for over 100 employees; manages the administration of the city’s self-insurance health benefits; PERS and Police & Fire pension; and Worker’s Compensation.

My primary goal for this office is to serve the citizens and the City of Coshocton to the best of my ability, while keeping the office in complete compliance with the laws of the State of Ohio pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code, while utilizing the resources of the City in an efficient and fiscally responsible manner.

The Auditor’s office door is always open and we are happy to serve you.

Sincerely,

Sherry A. Kirkpatrick
Auditor, City of Coshocton
